Hop Talk #39: Barn Owls

This we’re joined once again by House of Sours AKA Sonia for more tart beers! We keep doing Bellwoods episodes, but that’s just because their beer is so delicious! The beers we had this week were batch Nos. 11, 13, 14 and 15 - there was no website page for 14! These were all very tasty but 11 really stole the show with its delicate and unique flavor. I’d love to see more lavender beers! No. 11 was made with lavender and wildflower honey from Rosewood Estates, which seems like a pretty swell place!

I searched around to see if anyone had their own thoughts on the tart vs sour debate, and came across one or two beer forum posts on the subject! These BeerAdvocate and RateBeer threads are pretty old, but maybe they will help you come to a decision. I for one saw a comment that was right in line with my own thoughts, so I’m satisfied.

The last thing I wanted to talk about here was the whole “Buck-a-beer” initiative in Ontario. This was a whole thing (I think fiasco might be a good word) that happened a few months ago thanks to Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who lowered the minimum price a beer could be sold at by 25 cents to 1 dollar (Canadian of course). This was part of his election campaign, but not surprisingly it hasn’t really taken off. You can read a bit more about that here.

Our favorites this week:

Everyone - Batch 11 (Lavender)

See y’all next week!
